BANGOR, Maine — It wasn’t pretty, but Waterville’s 63rd consecutive victory counted just the same as the 62 before it.
The top-ranked Purple Panthers limited Mattanawcook of Lincoln to seven field goals while Morgan Frame posted a double-double en route to a comfortable 50-21 Eastern Maine Class B girls quarterfinal win over the No. 8 Lynx at the Bangor Auditorium Saturday.
Coach Ted Rioux’s 19-0 club advances to Wednesday’s 3:35 p.m. semifinal against Mount View of Thorndike while the Lynx finish up 13-7.
The Panthers came out fairly slow, leading 8-5 after one quarter with the Lynx throwing a lot of junk defenses.
Jen Nale scored nine of Waterville’s 15 second-quarter points as it pushed the lead to 23-11 by halftime.
Frame and the Panthers coasted from there, as the 6-foot-1 senior center finished with 18 points and 20 rebounds and Nale 15 points.
Brooke Hanscom’s eight points led the Lynx.
