RAYMOND – Jason Elliott Cushing, 31, of Gore Road, went home to be with his maker, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 21, 1977, in Miami, the son of Vernley and Minnie Leonard Cushing. Jason graduated from Medomak Valley High School, Waldoboro, Class of 1996, and immediately started his career in theater. He participated in more than 300 plays, played the lead roll in “Bare Foot in the Park,” and was an extra in several Stephen King movies. His most recent play was a roll in “Ruby Sunrise.” His theater career took him from Maine to Boston and New York. He was predeceased by his father, Vernley Cushing; and grandparents, Elliott and Alice Cushing of Brooklin, and Joseph and Barbara Leonard of Warren. Jason is survived by his life partner, Thomas Coulombe of Raymond; his mother, Minnie Cushing and companion, Allen Andrews; one brother, Jerome, all of Warren; his special aunt and uncle, Walter and Joanne Davis of Camden; aunts, Fay and Chris Lash, and Wendy and Butch Sidelinger of Waldoboro; his uncles and their wives, Joe Jr. and Jackie Leonard of Warren, Harry and Diane Leonard of Warren, and Charles Leonard of Windham; and several special cousins, Barbie Davis, Scott Davis and Michelle Gomm, Joe Davis and Amy Foss, all of Camden. There are several special friends, Michael and Andrew of Raymond, Wanda Dellairo and Brent Hughes and Tom Lynch, all of Hermon; plus Jay’s extended family, the Coulombe’s of Old Town, the Ellis family of Alton, the Millette’s and the Anderson’s of Eddington. Jay and Thom especially thank Dr. Sigrid Berg; CancerCare of Maine; Dr. Donald Lawrence and staff of MGH; special thanks to hospice nurses and staff of Brewer and Southern Maine Hospice; his nurse, Kathy Jones; social workers, Rhoda Richardson, who are all so amazing in their jobs; to Thom, Michael and Andrew for making his life so complete; and also a special thanks to B.J. Broder for his visits and kinds words. Relatives and friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23.
