Husson 89, Castleton State 74
At Castleton, Vt., Matt MacKenzie scored 30 points as Husson University of Bangor outscored Castleton State College 57-39 in the second half to claim victory. Blaine Meehan, Brock Bradford and Fabian Figueroa scored 11 points apiece for the Eagles. Marcus Hass led the Spartans with 24 points. Kevin Cayea had 17 points.
Lyndon State 87, UMF 71
At Lyndon Center, Vt., Brad Durr totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds as Lyndon State College defeated the University of Maine at Farmington. Ben Sackett scored 18 points for the Hornets and Cesar Martinez added 17 points. Eric Taylor paced the Beavers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Tanguay added 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Green Mountain 66, MMA 61
At Poultney, Vt., Green Mountain held off a late run by Maine Maritime Academy of Castine to earn the victory. Rui Carmo paced 14-10 Green Mountain with 19 points and Fabian Ferriera added 15. Derek DiFrederico scored 16 points to lead MMA.

At Lyndon Center, Vt., Ashley Busque scored 23 points to lift the University of Maine at Farmington over Lyndon State College. Erin Porter had 14 points and 10 boards for the 10-14 Beavers. Caitlyn Laflin chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Wetzel scored 17 points to lead 8-15 Lyndon State.
Green Mountain 54, MMA 50
At Poultney, Vt., Brittany Holden scored 18 points and Natalie Clark added 17 to lead the Eagles by Maine Maritime Academy of Castine. Tatum Welch paced MMA with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Samantha Goda chipped in with 16 points.
Husson 81, Castleton 66
At Castleton, Vt., Shelby Bradford scored a game-high 18 points for the Eagles, including the first two of the second half that gave Husson the lead for good. Jenny Rollins and Ashley Bragdon contributed 13 points each for the Eagles, Bree Hanscom added 11 and Bethany Sevey had 10. Bradford also grabbed 16 rebounds and had five assists. Leeanne Ketchen popped in 13 points for the Spartans, who had led by 12 with six minutes left in the first half before Husson took control.

Bates 6, Alma 5
At Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bates College trailed 5-4 in the ninth inning but had the bases loaded with two outs when Chris Burke walked to send in the tying run and sophomore Jake Simon followed with another walk to lead the Bobcats of Lewiston past Alma College. Noah Lynd singled twice while 1-0 Bates drew six walks and had two hit by a pitch. Nick Townsend led the 0-1 Scots with two doubles and a single. Jeremy Stephens singled twice.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Maine wins two
At Conway, S.C., Alexis Soularis hit a game-ending three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning and freshman Ashley Kelley pitched a nine-hitter to give the University of Maine a 4-1 win over Virginia Tech. The Black Bears also won the first game against Western Carolina 6-0. In the first game, Jenna Balent (2-0) allowed two hits, two walks and struck out two to earn the shutout for Maine. Kristen Calvetti hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Stephanie George added a solo home run and Terren Hall had a single, two RBIs and scored two runs. Beth Hauser doubled to lead Western Carolina. In the second game, Ashley Kelley allowed five hits, no walks and no earned runs through nine innings for the Black Bears. Jenna Rhodes tripled and singled for the Hokies, who played in the College World Series last year.
