MACHIAS – Elizabeth (Luce) Love, 63, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Feb. 23, 2009, after a courageous battle with MS – multiple sclerosis and cancer. She was born Nov. 30, 1945, in Sampson, N.Y., daughter of the late Charles W. Luce Sr. and Julia (McIver) Luce. She graduated as co-valedictorian from Machias Memorial High School in 1964 and Colby College in 1968; and received her master’s degree in guidance from University of Maine in 1988. She was a member of Machias Valley Baptist Church and Eastern Star. Elizabeth taught history in Searsport, Calais, Lubec, and Machias, where she taught for 13 years. She was a guidance counselor for 12 years at W.A. – Washington Academy, where she received the honor Maine’s Guidance Counselor of the Year. She loved school and loved “her kids.” Whether it was teaching history. “guiding,” pep rallies, class trips or coaching the cheerleaders, she loved going to the games, soccer, basketball, baseball; she loved to go and she loved to cheer. If she were there you would hear her. If the kids were doing it, she was there. They loved her for it and to them she will endearingly forever be Mrs. Love. She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver of 39 years, Roy L. Love; her daughter, Lisa and her husband, David, of Beals; her son, Carlton and his wife, Angela, of Machias; two grandsons, Michael and Matthew Love of Machias; brother, William Luce of Windham; aunts, uncles, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, cousins, many dear friends, and special longtime caregiver and friend, Lynda Noyes of Jonesboro. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Charles W. Luce Jr. A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Machias Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Machias Valley Baptist Church, 8 Broadway, Machias, ME 04654. Private burial will be in the family lot in North New Portland.
