HULLS COVE – Edwin Alonzo Strout, “The Candy Man,” 89, died Feb. 28, 2009, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. He was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Hulls Cove, son of Selden and Edith (Gray) Strout. Edwin served in the U.S. Army and the European Theatre during World War II. He was a faithful employee of Jackson Laboratory for 32 years and enjoyed fishing. Edwin belonged to the Episcopal Church in Hulls Cove and was custodian for 17 years. He is survived by his sons, Raymond E. of Bar Harbor, and Edwin A. and wife, Lillieth, of Alaska; daughter, Sandra F. Rodick of Bar Harbor; sisters, Alice Cirard of Blue Hill and Frances Blanchard of Virginia; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Church of Our Father, Hulls Cove, with the Rev. Chuck Bradshaw officiating. Spring interment will be at Hull Cove Cemetery.
