READFIELD – Elizabeth Ann Colter, 78, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. She was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Norristown, Pa., daughter of Lewis and Nancy (Hardy) Coffey. Betty Ann received her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan in the early-1980s. She had worked at Mercy Hospital, Jackson, Mich.; was head of the operating room at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis and for more than 15 years worked in Saudia Arabia. Betty Ann enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. She followed the University of Michigan Wolverines football team and was an avid reader of books, including her Bible. She was deeply rooted in her faith and was a member of Dunn’s Corner Baptist Church. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou Coffey. She is survived by her husband, Norm Colter of Readfield; a son, Greg Colter and his wife, Kathleen, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Marianne Weinstein of Readfield; a grandson, Charlie Lewis Weinstein of Readfield; and a cousin, Jerry Coffey of Allentown, Pa.; also several other nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Betty Ann’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Dunn’s Corner Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dunn’s Corner Baptist Church, 238 Wings Mills Road, Mount Vernon, ME 04352.
