LUBEC – Gregory Scott McConnell, 49, died peacefully March 5, 2009, at home with his family and friends. He was born June 23, 1959, in Melrose, Mass., son of Carl and Carolyn (Newman) McConnell. He was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1977. He went on to attend Southern Maine Technical College receiving a plumbing certificate. He owned and operated Hillside Restaurant along with his wife, Debbie, for 15 years. He also enjoyed working with his father at Carl McConnell & Sons Construction, as well as scallop dragging. Most recently he was employed as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served on the Lubec Water Board, and was a member of Sons of the American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65, Lubec. He enjoyed going on bass fishing trips, especially the ones to Quebec. He also enjoyed the times spent with family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debbie (Joy) McConnell; his daughter, Sara; son, Gregory and his fiancee, Dari-Lee Matthews; brothers, Kevin and wife, Juli and children, Matt and Kevin, of Veazie, Mike and children, Michael, Christian and Faith, and Mitch and his wife, Tracy and children, Mitchell and Craig; special sister-in-law, Carla and children, Jessica and Nate; and many special friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at their home, 795 County Road, Lubec. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Carolyn and Gregory Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Bar Harbor Bank, Lubec. Burial will be held later in the spring. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
