PRESQUE ISLE – Richard W. Knox, 78, died March 7, 2009, at a Scarborough hospice center. He was born May 25, 1930, in Presque Isle, the son of Stanley and Mary (Condon) Knox. He had been employed with Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base for many years until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dick was a member of Presque Isle Lodge of Elks No. 1954, Ray Goding Post No. 88 American Legion, Hayward-Frazier Post No. 2599 VFW and was a past member of Presque Isle Abanaki Club. He is survived by a son, Richard W. Knox Jr. and his wife, Lauri, of Presque Isle; two daughters, Diana Stearns and her husband, Gordon, of Berwick and Lori Wharff and her husband, Christopher, of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Catherine Clockedile, Cindy Richards, Katie Wharff, Jenni Wharff, Leslie Arsenault, Marcie Farley, Loren White Jr. and April Simonds; great-grandchildren, Austin, Dylan, Jacob, Nathan and Bradley; two sisters, Nellie Knox of Presque Isle and Ruth Lento of Blaine; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sarah (Rand) Knox; two daughters, Pearl and Cheryl Knox; nine brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Kevin Keirstead officiating. Family and friends may call noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Officers and members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1954 will conduct a memorial service 12:45 p.m. A spring interment with military honors will be held at Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle.
