ALEXANDER – Earl C. Hill Sr., 87, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009, with his family by his side at Calais Regional Hospital. Earl was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Lewiston, son of the late Earl and Nellie (Leavitt) Hill. He graduated from Calais High School, Class of 1939, and moved to Waterville where he worked as a meat cutter. Earl entered the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. After the war, he returned to Waterville before coming back to the Calais area. Earl was the produce manager at the Calais A&P for 30 years. After his retirement, Earl worked for Georgia Pacific and then Eastern Maine Electric Co-op, as a meter reader. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, woodworking and riding his four-wheeler. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Fleming and Winnie Hatt. Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Susan (Milliken) Hill; four children, Earl Hill Jr. and his wife, Patsy, of Alexander, Larry Hill and his wife, Emogene, of Alexander, Russell Hill and his wife, Debbie, of Calais, and Ron Hill and his wife, Shirley, of Alexander; 10 grandchildren, Sally Johnson of Red Beach, Robert Hill and his wife, Denise, of Princeton, Sandra Towner and her husband, Steve, of Ellsworth, Kimberly Hill of Bangor, Krista Prue and her husband, Matt, of Bangor, Amanda Holmes and her companion, Josh Smale, of Calais, Scott Hill and his wife, Adelyn, of Bridgewater, Mass., Randy Hill and his wife, Heather, of Cadillac, Mich., Gary Hill and his wife, Jennifer, of Baileyville and Lisa Emerson and her husband, Todd, of Columbia Falls; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth White of Miami; sister-in-law, Sheila Milliken of Braintree, Mass.; special nephew, Mark Milliken of Braintree, Mass.; and a special niece, Harriett Hill.
