Skidmore sweeps Saint Joseph’s
At Winter Haven, Fla., the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds toppled Saint Joseph’s of Standish for a 9-8, 13-5 doubleheader sweep. In the opener, Skidmore jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Monks rallied with three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. But Skidmore countered with the tying run in the sixth and the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Eric LaBatte led Saint Joseph’s with a double, single and four RBIs, while Pat Moran of Winterport also doubled and singled. Reliever Chris Dion took the pitching loss. In the second game, Skidmore grabbed a 10-0 lead and cruised to victory. Saint Joseph’s is now 2-5.
SOFTBALL
Saint Joseph’s splits two games
At Fort Myers, Fla., Saint Joseph’s College of Standish split two softball games for the third times in as many days, defeating College of Wooster 9-5 before falling to Renselaer Polytechnic Institute 14-1. In the opener, Christy Wezowicz earned her first pitching win of the year, while Anna Willis had three singles and three runs scored and Liddy van der Linden doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs. In the second game, the Monks trailed 11-0 through three innings. Willis led Saint Joseph’s with two singles.
