EAST ORLAND – Capt. Dennis Robert Delpape, U.S. Army, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Malcolm Randolph Veterans Medical Center, Gainsville, Fla. Dennis was born April 24, 1940, in Central Falls, Providence, R.I. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Providence College and a master’s degree in secondary education from Barry College, Miami. Dennis joined the U.S. military in 1962, where he achieved the rank of captain. He was honorably discharged in Arlington, Va., in 1968. In 1989 Dennis moved to Orland, where he became a cherished volunteer for H.O.M.E Inc. Dennis loved to travel and spent time in several countries, his home base continued to be St. Francis Community in Maine. Dennis loved to garden and was most happy in the kitchen garden. Dennis is remembered by his culinary skills and the wonderful meals he prepared as a volunteer for the homeless. He owned two motorcycles, which he rode until he couldn’t ride any longer. Dennis was loved by all and will be sorely missed by the community. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 22, at Wayside Chapel, 90 Schoolhouse Road, Orland.
