APPLETON – Amon Robert Vaughan, 18, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 17, Rockport. Born March 27, 1990, in Rockport, he was the son of Glen E. Vaughn and Tammie Conant. Amon was raised in Appleton, attending Appleton Village School and graduating in 2008 from Camden Hills Regional High School. During his last two years of high school, he enjoyed involvement with the Zenith Program, and also attended Midcoast School of Technology. Since graduating from high school, he worked as a welder at Fisher Engineering, Rockland. An avid “wrencher,” he worked on four-wheel drive trucks, many of which he owned. He enjoyed dirt biking and snowmobiling with friends, as well as four-wheeling pick-ups on Mount Pleasant. Along with hunting, he also enjoyed kayaking, hiking and being outdoors. Just last year with his family, Amon hiked Mount Katahdin. He was a devoted and proud uncle to his niece and nephews. He loved dogs, particularly black labs. Amon was a member of Appleton Fire Department and also regularly assisted Hope Fire Department. Always willing to help those in need, Amon was anticipating earning his emergency medical technician license. Amon is survived by his father, Glen Vaughan of Swanville; his mother, Tammie Conant and her companion, Stephan Stone, of Appleton; sister, Sarah Pascal and her husband, Neil, of Montville; paternal grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Vaughan of Liberty and Florida, and Esther and Roland Bailey of Waldoboro; maternal grandmother, Margaret Conant; aunts, Andrea Grierson and her husband, Darrell, of Appleton, Gail Vaughan of Friendship, Janice Hamilton and her husband, Gary, of Searsport, and Julie Vaughan; uncle, Scott Conant and his wife, Cheryl, of Appleton; niece, Madison; nephews, Jacob, Nathan and Cody Pascal, all of Montville; his girlfriend, Kristin Keller of Hope; and many cousins. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A celebration of Amon’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Appleton Fire Department, 2915 Sennebec Road, Appleton.
