ST. AGATHA – Samuel Michaud, 81, died March 18, 2009, at a Fort Kent hospital, after a brief illness. He was born April 20, 1927, in St. Agatha, the son of Onezime and Phelime (Lagasse) Michaud. Sam was drafted in the Navy during World War II in his sophomore year and completed high school, then attended McCalister Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a prominent businessman from 1949 to 1987, along with his wife, Bernadette Chamberland for 39 years, whom he was married to for 59 1/2 years. He had Ambulance Service for 35 years, owned Michaud Furniture and Michaud Funeral Home, and was a bus driver for SAD 33 for eight years. He was past president of Northern Maine Funeral Directors Association, a member of state legislature for a short time, and was a member of American Legion Post No. 145 of Frenchville and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He is survived by one daughter, Karen and her husband, John Charles Michaud, of St. Agatha; two grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Mark Jellison, of South Portland, and Chad and his wife, Robyn, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Andrew Jellison, Maddison Michaud, and twins, Sam and Macie Michaud, expected in June; two brothers, Bernard and his wife, Geraldine, and Carl and his wife, Theresa, both of St. Agatha; two sisters, Etiennette George of Enfield, Conn., and Florine and her husband, Bernard Gervais, of New Britain, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernadette, in June 2008; his parents; and one sister, Marcella Michaud. Friends and relatives may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at Michaud Funeral Home, St. Agatha. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Catholic Church with the Rev. Dave Raymond officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Agatha Lower Cemetery. For those who desire, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Memorial Fund for heating fuel or a donation of one’s choice.
