At Medford, Mass., Alex Perry homered and doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Tufts University past Bates College of Lewiston. Pat O’Donnell allowed 11 hits but just one run and no walks while striking out 13 through 8ª innings for Tufts (3-9). Nate Bankoff hit a solo home run. Pat Murphy singled and doubled with an RBI to lead Bates (2-7). Tom Beaton and Rich Velotta each singled twice.
Trinity 5, Bowdoin 3
At Orono, Ryan Piacentini had three hits as Trinity College of Connecticut defeated Bowdoin College of Brunswick at Mahaney Diamond. Kent Graham, Alex LiDonni and Alexander Rokicki doubled for Trinity (10-2). Brett Gorman and Adam Marquit had RBI singles for the Polar Bears (10-9).
SOFTBALL
Colby beats Potsdam, Oberlin
At Fort Myers, Fla., Alex Essman hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to lead Colby College to victory over Potsdam State 5-1 in the first game. Colby beat Oberlin College in the second game 3-2 as the Mules finished their spring trip with a 10-0 record. In the first game, Alyssa Lepore doubled and singled for the Mules and Annie Wilson added two singles. Brittany Tasi and Randi Arsenault combined to allow seven hits for Colby. In the second game, Essman hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Colby the lead and eventual win. Carlie Minichino had two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Alyssa Crowell (4-0) pitched a six-hitter for the Mules.
Saint Joseph’s sweeps Simmons
At Standish, Emily Leverone had a triple and two singles with two runs scored and an RBI as Saint Joseph’s beat Simmons 7-2 in the nightcap. The Monks won the opener 3-1. In the first game, Alyssa Dunn doubled and singled with an RBI for Saint Joseph’s. Elizabeth Jordan added two singles and a run scored. Annie Thompson led Simmons with three singles and an RBI. In the second game, Jillian Kimball and Ashley Geel each had two singles and two RBIs for the Monks (8-6). Madylan Kluna pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight. Leah Derderian doubled and knocked in a run for Simmons (3-12).
Bowdoin 6, Trinity 2
At Hartford, Conn., Allison Coleman hit a two-run home run in the second inning to help lift Bowdoin College of Brunswick over Trinity College. Kara Nilan allowed just one run and three hits through six innings for the Polar Bears (12-5). Patricia Cipicchio hit an RBI double in the fourth for Trinity (7-7).
Tufts 9, Bates 1
At Medford, Mass., Maya Ripecky doubled and singled with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Tufts University to victory over Bates College of Lewiston. Roni Herbst and Alison Drobiaz each singled three times for Tufts (13-0). Christy Tinker added a double and a single. Bates (2-7) got single hits from Leah Maciejewski, Monica Berube, Kelly McManus and Jean McIntyre. Lauren Dobish knocked in a run on a groundout in the fifth.
