SMYRNA – Shirley Allen, 100, died April 2, 2009, in Houlton. She was born July 29, 1908, in Sherman, the daughter of Leslie and Isabella (Tozier) Daggett. She was a graduate of Sherman High School, a 50-year member of Molunkus Order of the Eastern Star No. 95, a past matron loyal Order of the Eastern Star in the Island Falls chapter, a past grand representative of Maryland in Maine, was a telephone operator in Smyrna Mills for 20 years and a member of Smyrna Mills Methodist Church. She is survived by three great-nieces, Virginia and her husband, Daniel Sobol, of Jefferson, Mass., Gail Penrose of Bangor and Julie Caron of Brookfield, Mass.; three great-nephews, Brian Foss of Bangor, Peter Tarbell of Sebastian, Fla., and Richard Foss of St. Albans, Vt.; several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Allen. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, with Molunkus Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 95 services to begin 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marilyn Rhodin officiating. Spring interment will be at Smyrna Mills Cemetery.
