The York Independent is a free paper published 24 times yearly.
QOL Publications of Manchester, which owns the HippoPress and the Manchester Express weeklies, also offers commercial printing and distribution services.
It says the York Independent will continue to be published in its current format. Former owners Steve and Tori Rasche of York will remain involved in the paper.
The York Independent was founded in 1999.
