Many of the president’s critics fear that he and the Democratically controlled Congress will enact far stricter laws about gun ownership. A sharp increase in the purchase of assault weapons and the like is evidence of this fear. But President Obama and congressional Democrats may be fearful of voter backlash and the power of lobby groups like the NRA. Four years from now, will it be substantially more difficult to buy a gun, or is this misplaced worry?
