PORTLAND, Maine — Selma Botman has been formally installed as the 10th president of the University of Southern Maine.
At a ceremony Saturday in Portland, Botman told about 300 people that USM is essential to the aspirations of 10,000 students and integral to the wider community.
Botman announced a $1 million gift from the Bernard Osher Foundation for the endowment of re-entry scholarships for adults who have been out of school.
The Maine Sunday Telegram reports that the endowment will provide $2,000 scholarships to 25 students each year.
