State fiscal analysts and lawmakers continue to worry about the widening gap between
fuel tax revenue and the cost of repairing Maine’s roads. What should be done? Should
new taxes, perhaps based on miles driven, be implemented? Should the gas tax be raised
again? Should more tolls be collected? Or should the state cut other spending so roads are
a priority?
