AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s spring wild turkey season is under way with a youth-only day intended to encourage young people to learn about the sport.

After Saturday’s one-day hunt open to youngsters between the ages of 10 and 16, the season begins for adults on Monday and continues through June 6.

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said hunters must have a spring wild turkey permit as well as a hunting license.

The bag limit is one bearded wild turkey per season.
