NORTH BROOKLIN – Harold “Sonny” Leslie Williams, husband and best friend of Alberta Williams, passed away May 1, 2009, at Blue Hill Hospital, from a long, courageous battle with cancer, with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Sedgwick, to Mary and Edmund Williams. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Alberta; he is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Lloyd McKay of Bradford, Fran and Phil “Sledge” Leyendecker of Lamoine, and Gloria and Bill Shorey of Bucksport; sister, Dorothy Snellings of Machias; six grandchildren, Eric McVay of Hampden, Dustin Leyendecker of Hancock, Tonya McVay of Hampden, Harold Emerton of Blue Hill, Scott Conary of Franklin and Brent Conary of Bucksport; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many special friends. He was predeceased by his father, Edmund Williams; his mother, Mary Williams; and his brothers, Edmund and Bud Williams. He worked many years as a house builder and finish carpenter at Brooklin Boat Yard. He really enjoyed building boats; he loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. Sonny was a very special person with a great sense of humor and loved to tell his stories to anyone who would listen. He had a deep love for his family and special friends. Those who knew him loved him. His positive attitude was reflected in all aspects of his life. He was a proud man, a great father and husband. At Sonny’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 823, Blue Hill, ME 04614, where he received outstanding care.
