PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Stars and snowflakes took center stage in Presque Isle Monday afternoon, as the city unveiled two graphics it wants the public to consider as a potential downtown logo.

Residents will have until the end of the month to vote on which logo they like best.

The final two design options for a new logo were unveiled by the Presque Isle Downtown Revitalization Committee and Fort Kent-based graphic designer Heidi Carter during a meeting at the Presque Isle Rotary Club. Carter is the owner and creative director of Heidesign, the firm that designed the logos.

Since Presque Isle is known as the Star City, stars play a significant role in both designs.

The first logo is a yellow, green and blue star to represent the city’s summer landscape. The second contains star-shaped snowflakes that evoke the city’s winter landscape. Both logos feature the tag line, “Shine On. Good Times.”

Billie Brodsky, chair of the PIDRC’s promotion committee, said Tuesday she was thrilled with the two logos.

“We started out with seven or eight logos and we narrowed it down to two that the public will vote on,” she said. “We are very excited to see how the vote will go.”

Carter said she studied the city and its attractions in order to develop the logo.

“In many ways, Presque Isle is a beacon for the rest of The County,” she said in a written statement. “It shines on and so do the people who come to visit. And the variety available in the downtown area allows for good times to be spent with family and friends.”

Brodsky said she and fellow committee members were looking to the logo to “draw more people into the downtown.”

“This gives the downtown some recognition and we think it really will lure people to downtown Presque Isle so they can see what we have to offer,” said Brodsky. “We have a lot to offer, including restaurants, shops and a movie theater. There is a lot going on in the downtown.”

Brodsky said she expects a logo to be chosen next month.
