MADAWASKA and PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Edgar J. Carrier passed away May 5, 2009, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Grand Isle, the son of Clovis and Anne (Beaulieu) Carrier Beaupre. After being stationed in Japan in World War II, Edgar returned to Madawaska. He worked for many years at Fraser Paper in different capacities, in the maintenance department, where the trades reported to him, until his retirement in 1985. He especially loved taking vacation time during potato harvest to enjoy the outdoor activity of it. Edgar was a member of American Legion Post 147 of Madawaska; Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2638, also of Madawaska; and the Square Dance crew, where he and his wife, Marcella, were past presidents. He was an avid card player who enjoyed the fun competition. He also enjoyed telling educational war stories, being the cook at cookouts, fishing on the ponds, planting vegetables in his flowerbed, and traveling with his motor home to various destinations with his grandchildren. Depending on the season, Edgar enjoyed riding motorcycle, skidoo, and driving the well decorated white convertible, as the flower car, for Miss Madawaska in the Memorial Day Parades. You never saw Edgar without Marcie as they romantically held hands wherever they happened to be. His family is very proud of the way he engaged his life with them, and they will forever miss his smile and humor. He is survived by one daughter, Joan Carrier of Madawaska; one son, Bob Carrier of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; one grandson, Matt and his wife, Tracy, of Jay; one granddaughter, Carrie Dechaine and her husband, Michael, of Madawaska; four great-grandchildren, Eddie and Austin Dechaine of Madawaska and Mackenzie and Lucas Michaud of Jay; one brother, Reno Carrier and his wife, Pauline, of Connecticut; three sisters, Theresa Roberge and her husband, Don, of Florida, Jeannine Daigle of Madawaska, and Rejeanne Ross and her husband, Aurele, of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews. Edgar was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Marcella, whom he lovingly called “Ti Chou”; his parents; and siblings, Gerald “Bea,” Donald “Gacon,” Rina, Violette “Vi,” Joseph Normand, Joseph Ademar, Rita, Eva, Laurette, Germaine and Leo James. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Daigle Funeral Home. There will be no visitation Saturday morning. Interment will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edgar’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
