GLENBURN – Mary E. (Cookson) Bowden, 88, formerly of Orrington, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born July 18, 1920, in Glenburn, daughter of George and Bertha (Coffin) Cookson. Mary regularly attended Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church. She was a former employee of Tucker Shoe Factory and Nissen Bakery, Brewer. She was an avid gardener and cherished her large close knit family. Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda Griffin and her husband, Reginald, of Jackman; a son-in-law, Stanley Dingwell of Connecticut; five grandchildren, Lynn Johnston, Russell Griffin, Clifton Brown, James Brown and Laurie Trevain; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay Cookson; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Patsy Cookson, who lived with and cared for her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James L. Bowden; daughter, Deanna Dingwell; four brothers, Warren, Darrell, Harry and Elwood; and four sisters, Clara, Izetta, Gladys and Marion. Mary’s family thanks the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home for all their love and support. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, Hudson Road, Glenburn, with Pastor Gregory DuBois officiating. Interment will be afterward at Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeview Road, Glenburn. After the interment relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshment at the church reception hall.
