PEMBROKE – Aubrey H. Hersey, 93, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at a Calais health care facility. He was born April 14, 1916, in Pembroke, son of the late Philip and Gladys (Wilbur) Hersey. Mr. Hersey moved to Hide Park, Mass., where he was employed for four years at Sturdivants, where he built turbines for World War II. In 1946 he moved back to Pembroke, where he worked at Sunset Sardine Packing Co., for several years. He was also employed with DiCenzo Construction, Calais, for several years. Most recently, he was employed at Georgia Pacific paper mill in Woodland, working as a paper finisher, retiring in 1977 with 25 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed membership into Quarter Century Club, where they received updated tours of the mill and attended banquets with his wife. Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. He was also a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, never missing a televised a game. He shared 75 years of marriage with Eleanor (Clark) Hersey. In addition to his wife, family members include his children, Sandra Kolbjornsen and husband, Arne, and Barry Hersey and his wife, Priscilla; five grandchildren, Ned, Doug, John, Sarah and Dan; 10 great-grandchildren, Max, Matt, Mia, Meghan, Jaidan, Logan, Dylan, Danielle, Megan and Abigail; three sisters, Phyllis Ferguson, Marjorie Rice and Norma Mazzaccaro and husband, Sal; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by sisters-in-law, Carolyn, Ruthella and Evelyn; many close friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by a brother, Ray. Graveside services will be celebrated 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Clarkside Cemetery, Leighton Point Road, Pembroke, with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating.
