WINTERPORT – David Edwin Ellingwood Sr., 73, passed away May 21, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Hampden, to the late Leon and Christine (Richards) Ellingwood. David grew up in a large farming family before serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Hornet. He was a lifelong cabinetmaker and wood craftsman. He will be sadly missed but always remembered as a man with a big heart and a charitable hand. David was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Edward Ellingwood. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, who took care of him through his entire illness, Marjorie; his children, Judi Bither of Millinocket, Claudette Nason and David Ellingwood Jr., both of Winterport; sisters, Kathleen Reynolds of Hampden, Beverly Smith of Ohio and Bethany Carlson of Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 9 a.m. Friday, June 5, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
