DEXTER – Dean O. Tuttle, 63, died May 26, 2009, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born March 27, 1946, in Dexter, son of Owen and Barbara (Parker) Tuttle. Along with his father, he owned and operated Tuttle Saw Shop, Dexter, for many years. From 1976 to 2003, he was a reserve officer for the town of Dexter. Dean worked as a correctional officer at Charleston Correctional Facility from 1985 until retiring as a sergeant in 2009. He was also involved with the K-9 unit in Charleston from 1985 to 1995. Dean was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Dexter. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was known as “the man that always paddled his own canoe.” He is survived by his wife, Mary (King) Tuttle; and his mother, both of Dexter; two children, Marilyn Jakins and her husband, Scott, of Newport; a son, Michael Tuttle and his wife, Laura, of Dexter; two grandsons, Tyler Jakins of Newport and Luke Tuttle of Dexter; a sister, Lana Annis and her husband, Brian, of Harmony; nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Riley. Dean’s family wishes to thank the nurses of CancerCare of Maine and the nurses on Eastern Maine’s sixth floor for their great care and support. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at New Hope Baptist Church, Free Street, Dexter, with Pastor Will Walters officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
