BAR HARBOR, Maine — Residents are scheduled to meet next week to decide whether to approve proposed municipal and school budgets that total nearly $18 million.

The open session of Bar Harbor’s annual town meeting is slated for 7 p.m. June 2, at Conners Emerson School on Route 233, near the intersection of Mount Desert and Eden streets.

Voters will be presented with a proposed elementary and middle school budget of $4.8 million and a separate municipal operations budget of $13.1 million, according to figures in the annual town meeting warrant. They also will be asked to approve borrowing $5.1 million for capital improvements to local infrastructure.

Of the $5.1 million, $3.1 million would go toward improving roads and storm drains. The remaining $2 million would be divided among new sidewalks, town office renovations, repairs to the public safety building, and improvements to Harborview and Barker parks. Included in the remaining $2 million is $467,000 that would go toward restrooms that would be constructed near Agamont Park on Newport Drive.
