Because of recent vandalism at the Hammond Street Senior Center in Bangor, there is no better time to purchase raffle tickets that might have you winning a great vacation while helping out the center at the same time.

Tickets will be sold “right up to the last minute” for the center’s Grand Summer Vacation Raffle drawing at 2:30 p.m. today at the center, 2 Hammond St., Bangor, wrote Deanna Partridge.

The raffle originally was launched to raise “enough money to make necessary repairs” to the center’s “100-year-old boiler furnace system,” she said.

But “we are now also in need of raising additional funds to cover a $1,000 deductible for vandalism sustained to a couple of windows and our handicapped accessible door.”

Partridge said that “selling just 50 booklets of tickets would cover repairing all the glass damage.”

Tickets are $5, or $20 for a book of five, and available at the Hammond Street Senior Center, Aunt Nellie’s Attic at 238 Main Road in Holden, or by calling 262-5532. You do not need to be present to win.

Prizes are a weeklong vacation on Cape Cod or Ogunquit, 10 rounds of golf in New England and $500.
