PEMBROKE and CALAIS – Arlene C. Rose, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center, Calais. Arlene was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Pembroke, daughter of the late William and Jennie (Sawyer) Carter. She graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1940, and shortly after married her high school sweetheart, Frederick Bullock. They moved to Portland where Arlene worked various jobs while attending night school. Only a year and a half after their marriage, Frederick passed unexpectedly. At age 27, Arlene moved to Connecticut where she married Irving Rose. She was employed as an accounts payable clerk at Bullock Co., Bridgeport, retiring in the 1980s. After the death of her second husband, Arlene moved back to Scarborough, then returned to Calais. She enjoyed watching television, reading and spending time with her canine companions. In addition to her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her husband; her stepdaughter, Carol O’Neil; nephew, William McGregor; sister, Clytie Bishop; and brother, Guy Carter. Surviving are her four nieces, Mary Bowden of Portland, Joyce Bowden of Portland, Donna Scott and her husband, Harvard, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and Deanna Skidgell of Madison; many great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
