NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. – We are deeply mourning the loss of our loving and precious mother, Alain Lorinthia (Knowlton) Kennedy. She died Saturday, June 6, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. Because of the professional and caring support of the Hospice team at North Memorial Hospital, she was able to remain at her daughter’s home in New Brighton, Minn., until her passing. She was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Caribou, the fourth child of Austin and Nettie (True) Knowlton. She had three brothers and five sisters. She was an active member in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and received great comfort and support from her brothers and sisters there. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Everyone loved her baked beans, biscuits, doughnuts and apple pie. She loved to knit and crochet from the time she was a young girl and always had several projects in the works. She was predeceased by her first husband of 34 years, Norman Kennedy Jr. They had four daughters, Jerry and Don Myers of Minnesota, Ruth and Russell Harvey of Maine, Rose and Scott Redder of Wyoming, and Jackie Kennedy of Maine. She was also predeceased by her second husband of 20 years, Darrell Kennedy Sr. She was stepmother to his eight children, Barbara Donahue of Indiana, Billy Kennedy of Maine, Darrell Kennedy Jr. of Georgia, Lesley Kennedy, whom is deceased, Teresa Hodges of Florida, Cheri Newman of Florida, Sandra Sellers of Indiana and Benjamin Kennedy of Florida. She is survived by her two sisters, Thelma Knowlton and Janet Rossignol, both Maine; six sisters-in-law, Arleen Knowlton of Michigan, Rita Richardson of Texas, Juanita Knowlton of Maine, Marjorie Kahkonen of Maine, Theola Raasumaa of Maine and Anna Parker of New Hampshire. She will be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Arnold and Emery Knowlton; and three sisters, Dorothy Kinney, Irene Lunney and Gretchen Knowlton. Alain will be dearly missed by everyone who was blessed with knowing her. Per Alain’s request, there will be no services at this time. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. A time of fellowship will be held after the service at The Montgomery’s, 58 Vesta Drive, Caribou.
