BLUE HILL, Maine — For three years now, the season has ended the way the George Stevens Academy baseball team prefers: with an appearance in the state championship game.
Team members, especially the seniors, are determined to do everything they can to get the Eagles back to a state final for the first time since 2005.
That determination was evident from two seniors in particular Saturday as Peter Dickinson tossed a five-inning no-hitter and Nick Saunders ended it via the mercy rule with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
The top-seeded Eagles eliminated No. 5 Madawaska 12-0 to earn a spot in Wednesday’s Eastern Maine Class C title game against either Orono or Calais.
George Stevens is now 15-3 while Madawaska winds up its season 12-6.
Dickinson struck out nine batters and walked three for his no-hitter. Saunders wound up with the home run, a triple and five RBIs.
