NEWPORT – Beverly (Garland) Murray, 81, died unexpectedly June 18, 2009, at her Park Avenue residence. She was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Carmel, a daughter of Earl and Gladys (Mayo) Garland. She graduated from Carmel High School, Class of 1945, and Delore’s Beauty School, Bangor. She owned and operated Beverly’s Hair Fashions, Newport, since 1947, and established a thriving business on the corner of Elm and Park streets. Beverly enjoyed her relationships with friends and customers she made throughout the years. She took great pride in her work and it was appreciated by her many loyal customers. It pleased her that her daughter, Debbie, followed in her footsteps. She was a devoted and loving mother and enjoyed seeing both of her children advance in their chosen careers. Few were aware of the fact that she was generous to the poor and assisted many people who had suffered setbacks in their lives. Beverly was a member of Nokomis Chapter No. 42, Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James A. Murray of Newport; a son, Danny and fiancee, Debbie Bishop; a daughter, Deborah and husband, Randy Davis, all of Newport; a sister and her husband, Gloria and Erwin “Kip” Soule of Bar Harbor and West Palm Beach, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and wife, Frannie Murray, of Indiatlantic, Fla., and Frank and wife, Lena Pray, of Newport and Osteen, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
