FRANKLIN – Ralph A. Ryder, 79, husband of the late Eleanor M. (Carpenter) Ryder, died July 3, 2009, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Franklin, the son of George W. and Edith M. (Torrey) Ryder. Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all animals and especially loved his family and friends. He was a member of Franklin Veterans’ Club. He worked various jobs throughout his life, including worming and clam harvesting, and blueberries factories. He is survived by three children, Jeffery Ryder of Cherryfield, Jacqueline Newbert and her husband, Michael Sr., and Jill Ryder and her partner, Bill Williams, of Sullivan; one stepdaughter, Nancy Bunker of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Michael Jr. and his wife, Heather, of Franklin, Angela Newbert of Franklin, and Jessica Sullivan of Southwest Harbor; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Hunter and Chase; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 6, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.
