WENDALL FREEMAN EASLER HAMPDEN and BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Wendall Freeman Easler, devoted husband, admired father and true friend, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, on his 77th birthday, surrounded by his family at a Bangor hospital. Wendall was born and raised on a farm in Sangerville, the first child of Elmer J. Easler and Vivienne (Carle) Fanjoy. After graduating from Dexter High School in 1950, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning to Maine, he work 15 years for Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer, then as vice president of Old Town Canoe Co., until his retirement in 1994. In his earlier years, Wendall had a passion for water-skiing and was president of Old Town Water Ski Club. At one point, he was named the best trick skier in the state of Maine. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed camping with his friends and family, fishing and hunting at his camp in Sangerville. As a sports enthusiast, he loved watching sports and playing golf. Wendall was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as ward clerk in Brooksville, Fla. He was always puttering around his home and serving others, but his greatest love of all was spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Sarah; his five children, Karen Collins and her husband, Steve, of Hermon, Kim Arbour and her husband, Roger, of Augusta, Kevin “Butch” Easler of Freeport, Peggy Wright and her husband, Mike, of Charlottesville, Va., and Michelle Easler of Brooksville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Jenni, Jewell, Jonathan, Lauren, Victoria, Landon, Veronica, Vanessa, Andrew and Kaylee; and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Eastern Maine Medical Center doctors, nurses and staff for their genuine care and compassion. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Ave., Bangor, with a visitation before the service 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be held 2:30 p.m. at Bailey Yard Cemetery, South Sangerville.
