HERMON and BANGOR – Ellie Mae (Emerson) Levesque, 87, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully July 9, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Hermon, the daughter of George A. Emerson Sr. and Grace Rae (Fernald) Emerson. Ellie attended Hermon schools and was a graduate of Hermon High School, Class of 1941. After high school she married Aurele E. Levesque and they moved to Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Moving to a French speaking country, she taught herself to read, write and speak French. Ellie had a quiet confidence and was a gracious lady who took great pride in her family and in anything she set out to accomplish. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, and enjoyed gardening, making Ployes, knitting and making beautiful afghans, a keepsake which she made for every one of her grandchildren as a wedding gift. Ellie was past president of Whitcomb-Baker VFW Post No. 4633 Ladies Auxiliary of Hampden and was a tireless worker for the auxiliary. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her beloved sons, who fondly called her “Ma,” Raymond A. and Janet Levesque of Dennis, Mass., William A. “Butch” and Pauline “Polly” Levesque of Hermon, Gerald A. and Alanna Levesque of Sequim, Wash., and Richard J. and Barbara Levesque of Woburn, Mass.; a sister, Frances Burke of Newburgh; a brother, Robert Emerson of Brewer; her grandchildren, Rae Ann, Steven, Paul, Michael, Lisa, Gerald, Nicole, Noelle, Laurie and Richard; 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and close friends at Freese’s Assisted Living Center. Ellie was predeceased by her husband, Aurele, in November 1996; and by brothers and sisters, Anson, Merritt, Warren, George Jr., Grace and Mary. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday.
