ELLSWORTH – Mavis L. Young, 86, died July 8, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Edmond J. and Philomene (Pelletier) Levesque. Mavis worked at Cunningham’s Market and at Britt’s Department Store for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Irene Chapter Order of Eastern Star, served as worthy matron of Irene Chapter No. 97, Ellsworth, and duel member of Alcyone Chapter No. 71, Milbridge. She was also a grand representative to North Carolina, 1998-2000. One of the most enjoyable things in her life was being a member of Order of Eastern Star, where she had many friends. She was always ready to put her traveling shoes on to visit chapters. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Young of Hartford, Conn.; daughters, Sharon L. Young of Ellsworth and Rae P. Jameson of Hollister, Calif.; grandchildren, William P. and Nigel A. Jameson; great-grandchildren, William Christopher, Dominic N., Ryan J. and Gavin W. Jameson; sisters, Eloise Martin of Enfield, Conn., Dorothy Morris of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and Janet Burchell of Fort Fairfield; and brothers, Basil Levesque of Legrande, Ore., and Gary Levesque of Fort Fairfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Ellis Young, in 1951. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
