PASSADUMKEAG – Clarence “Cap” W. Thomas left his Earthly home to enter into his heavenly home July 9, 2009. Cap was born May 30, 1950, in Tyronza, Ark., son of Jake Thomas Jr. and Clyde Patsy Thomas. He was one of 12 children. He grew up the son of a sharecropper, who went on to accomplish many things in life. Within months of graduating from high school, Cap entered into the Navy, 1970-1974. He was in hopes of seeing the world. His last duty station was Cutler Naval Base, Cutler. It was there that he met Peggy. Theirs was a love story. They were married Feb. 16, 1974. Their honeymoon was a cross-country trip to Phoenix, where he became a police officer for the city of Phoenix, 1975-1982. He had enlisted in Arizona National Guard and was invited and selected to become an Army officer. He retired with the rank of captain from the Army Reserves in 2000. He worked for Great Northern Paper for 19 years. His most recent employment was Apria Health Care. He was a lifelong learner and had earned an associate degree in criminal justice, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine and at the age of 56, an associate degree in dental hygiene. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Peggy (Doughty) Thomas; son, Raymond Thomas and wife, Samantha; daughter, Jocelyn Thomas; foster daughter, Ashley Buckman; his mother, Myrtle Thomas of Marked Tree, Ark.; and siblings, John Thomas of Gary, Ind., Clara Hyde, Lottie Brownlee and Mary Phillips of South Bend, Ind., Billy Thomas and Beverly, Paulette Bell and Kenneth of Little Rock, Ark. Also, his Maine family: Rae Stratton and family, Roy Damboise and family, Debra Sereyko and family, and many dear friends. Cap was love and the following Bible verse best describes him: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always preserves.” I Corinthians 13:4-7. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
