MILFORD, Maine — A Lincoln woman who suffered serious injuries Saturday evening in a crash on U.S. Route 2 died at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor early Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The death of Penny Darr, 44, could result in additional charges against Linda Cary, 58, of Milford, who was driving a pickup truck that collided with the motorcycle on which Darr was riding, but that decision will be made by officials at the District Attorney’s Office, Sgt. William Sheehan of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
Sheehan said he plans to present the District Attorney’s Office with an updated report in a few days.
Cary was charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants after investigators said she failed a blood alcohol content test. Sheehan declined to identify Cary’s BAC rating, saying he wanted the District Attorney’s Office to review the case first.
Cary was released from Penobscot County Jail in Bangor after making bail.
According to state law, a person is considered guilty of drunken driving in Maine with a BAC rating of 0.08 or greater.
Darr was a passenger on a 2006 Harley-Davidson driven by her husband, Thomas Darr, when the motorcycle hit a 2001 Chevrolet S10 Blazer driven by Cary. Penny Darr suffered extensive head injuries.
Neither Darr was wearing a helmet, investigators have said.
According to Sheehan, the accident occurred about 6:15 p.m. near the Greenbush town line. The Darrs were traveling behind Cary’s northbound SUV when Cary reportedly began to make a left turn. The motorcycle skidded, struck the rear end of the SUV and flipped, he said.
Thomas Darr suffered minor head injuries and blisters caused when he went off the motorcycle, Sheehan said.
