The Brewer Hometown Band is going to “bring out the flags, salute the colors and cheer for the red, white and blue,” Jan Cox wrote of its next concert “of patriotic music, just for you.”

The concert is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Brewer Auditorium, and Cox hopes that “Mother Nature will be kind and allow us to play outside; if not, we’ll set up inside.”

This second in the band’s summer concert series “is all about this wonderful land of the free and the home of the brave,” Cox wrote, adding, “we hope to see you there.”

Mary Lou Weaver of the Winter Harbor Public Library e-mailed that “award-winning children’s poet and author” Robert Pottle will read from several of his books from 2 to 3 p.m. today, at the library.

Pottle’s books include “I’m Allergic to School” and “Maine: The Way Wild Life Should Be.”

The program includes movement and poetry-writing activities from 3 to 3:30 p.m., nutritious snacks, and it’s all for free.

Weaver added Pottle is substituting for poet Martin Steingesser.

Victoria Eastman wrote that “though the Park Street United Methodist Church suffered serious damage due to a recent fire, the annual Strawberry Festival will be extra-sweet this year because of the generosity of neighboring United Baptist Church who has offered the use of their dining room and kitchen to host this event.”

Jody Wolford-Tucker, executive director of Hospice of Hancock County in Ellsworth, reports that the 14th annual Hospice Regatta of Maine will be held from Friday, July 17, to Sunday, July 19, on Mount Desert Island, and “is the signature event and largest, individual fundraiser” for HHC.

“Without federal or state financial support, or any fees for services,” Wolford-Tucker continued, HHC “raises a little more than 75 percent of its operating budget annually.”

In addition to yacht races on Saturday and Sunday, the event “offers something for everyone; many ways to participate,” she wrote.

To support this event and the work of HHC, you can be a sailor in the races, be a high card for hospice poker rally player, attend the celebration of hospice lobster bake and enjoy the Schoodic Steel Drum Band, or be a corporate or individual sponsor.
