TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mildred F. “Millie” Martin passed away April 17, 2009, at Shands, Gainesville, Fla. Millie was born March 19, 1931, in Frenchville, the daughter of Albert and Irene Martin. She graduated from John Bapst High School, Bangor, in 1949. She received her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, Boston, in 1952. As a registered nurse, she began her career as a private duty nurse for polio patients. She then became the office nurse for a leading cardiologist in Jacksonville, Fla. Later she worked as an occupational nurse for Seaboard Coastline Railroad, Jacksonville, Fla. She finished her career as a nurse consultant for the Medicaid program with the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed doing needlework and stained glass as hobbies. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Nellie; and brother, Robert. She is survived by a brother, Richard J. Martin of Anderson, S.C.; two sisters, Carmen Dunn and her husband, Charles, of West Lafayette, Ind., and Toni Martin of Jacksonville, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. July 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
