CALAIS – Anastasia J. Gross, 87, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Calais Regional Hospital. Anastasia was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Haverstraw, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Anna (Katulah) Tomovick. She attended school in New York and married Francis Gross, Oct. 30, 1943. She spent her first 18 years of marriage with her husband as a Marine’s wife. Her husband being from Maine, they moved back to Maine in 1966, after his retirement from the Marine Corps. Anastasia enjoyed reading, swimming, tennis, hiking and sewing. In addition to her parents, Anastasia was predeceased by her husband, Francis in 1996; and a brother, William Tomovick. Surviving are her three children, Francis Gross and his wife, Bernice, of Howell, N.J., Judith Alexander and her husband, Butch, of Calais and Mark Gross and his companion, Patti Dellisola, of Windham, N.H.; two brothers, John Tomovick and his wife, Carol, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Michael Tomovick of Pamona, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais Avenue, Calais, with the Rev. James Plourde, celebrant.
