DETROIT – George W. Springer, 67, died July 25, 2009, at a Pittsfield hospital after a long illness. He was born Jan. 3, 1942, in Stetson, the son of Elden and Glenice (Day) Springer Sr. He was educated in Stetson schools. George worked as a farmer, he worked for the State of Maine Department of Transportation for several years and from 1987 to 1991 he worked for Guilford Industries as a fork lift operator. He married Edna Sharp Aug. 21, 1982, in Carmel. He enjoyed wood working and making things for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Edna E. Springer of Detroit; three brothers, John Springer and his wife, Laura, of Stetson, Charles Springer of Woolwich and Malcolm Springer and his wife, Lynda, of Wiscasset; two sisters, Diane Young of Charleston and Valerie Bartlett of Alaska; two special cousins, Carol Dean and Connie Tracy, both of Carmel; several more cousins; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Elden Jr., Calvin and Timothy; and one sister, Christine. Graveside services will be conducted 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Coboro Cemetery, Stetson.
