CALAIS and CRESTHILL, Ill. – Douglas Joseph Leeman, 67, formerly of Calais, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Joliet, Ill. Douglas was born July 13, 1942, in Calais. After graduating from Calais High School, Class of 1960, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Douglas moved to Kansas City, Mo., working as a mechanic for TWA. He then relocated to Illinois, where he worked as a pipefitter/insulator for Local 33 Insulators Heat & Frost Union. Douglas was an avid golfer and a die-hard Cubs fan. He enjoyed his time at local establishments debating sports, politics and anything else that would come to mind. Douglas also enjoyed his quiet time reading Louis L’Amour and Tom Clancy books while relaxing with his cats, Bear and Tank. One of his favorite trips each year was to travel to Maine to watch his grandsons, Jordan and Joel, play basketball. Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Frances (Leeman) Chick; and a brother, Dale Chick. Surviving are his son, Edward P. Leeman and his wife, Jo-Ellen, of Calais; two grandchildren, Jordan and Joel Leeman; two brothers, Wayne Chick and his wife, Dawn, of Charlotte, and Jeff Chick of Machiasport; two sisters, Nancy Steele of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Paula Cunningham and her husband, Chris, of Port St. Lucien, Fla.; four nephews, Joshua Berube of Baring, Justin Chick of Charlotte, and Andrew and Craig Cunningham of Port St. Lucien, Fla.; two special friends, Carol Stonitsch and Deb Busch, both of Joliet, Ill.; and his two feline companions, Bear and Tank. A celebration of Douglas’ life will be held at a later date and will be announced in the Calais Advertiser. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais.
