GREENFIELD – Walter Smart White, 71, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence Aug. 4, 2009. He was born March 4, 1938, in Greenfield, a son of Alton F. and Esther (Smart) White. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling and the outdoors. He most especially enjoyed time with family and friends, and loved family gatherings. He worked various occupations including a pulp truck driver, worked at several Old Town Mills and as a mechanic and auto body man. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and was a true friend to all. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pauline; seven children, Sarah Roy and her significant other, Charlie Roy, of Greenfield, Allen White of Corinth, Raymond White and his significant other, Debbie Bogan, of Glenburn, Ava White and her significant other, Chester Gray of Corinth, Tracie Ellsworth and her husband, Joe, of Milford, Toby White and his significant other, Tara Pierce, of Greenfield, Richard White and his wife, Consuelo, of Pueblo, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, Ashley, Jesse, Meagan, Lucas, Jacob, Zachary, Allissia, Billie-Jo, Mercedes, Hunter, Jordan; three great-grandchildren, Faith, Gage and Deven; brother, Jim White of Pembroke; special “son” and best bud, Jim McEwen; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two grandsons, Christopher and Richard; a great-granddaughter, Skyla-Rae; a sister, Diana Crosby; and his beloved dog, Squirt. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery.
