Senior League
Calais loses twice

At West Deptford, N.J., South Vineland, N.J., tied a regional tournament record with a 10-run first inning en route to a five-inning, 16-1 win over Calais in the Eastern Regional Senior League tournament Saturday.
Calais fell to Brooklyn-Killingly, Conn., 2-1 on Sunday, eliminating the Maine District 1 champions from the tourney.
In other Little League regional tournament action, Bangor East fell to Peabody Western (Mass.) 13-0 in the 11-12 New England regional in Bristol, Conn. while Bangor split its first two games in Junior League play.
Bangor fell to Maryland 9-4 in eight innings in its first contest, with Maryland pushing across five eighth-inning runs while Bangor defeated Rhode Island 8-6 later Sunday, also in eight innings.
In Saturday’s Senior League contest, Chris Bell led the winners with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. Andrew Biggs got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the first.
Calais’ lone run came from Jordan Perry, who hit a solo home run in the fourth.
On Sunday, Wyatt Gibeault drove in a run with a single while Connor Flanagan plated another with a bunt single to give Kevin Bonitz all the run support he’d need.
Bonitz scattered one run on five hits while striking out six.
The game was called with Connecticut leading 4-1 in the top of the seventh due to rain, but under Little League rules, the game reverts back to the last full inning completed. Statistics are eliminated but pitch counts stand.
Tim Barnes fanned six for Calais in taking the loss while Drake Morrow doubled with pinch runner Billy Nicholas scoring on an error.

East Regional, 11-12
Massachusetts 13, Bangor East 0

At Bristol, Conn., two Peabody, Mass. pitchers combined on a one-hitter while the Massachusetts champions scored four times in the second inning and six more in the third en route to defeating Bangor East.
Marcus McCue’s single was Bangor East’s only hit.
The Maine District 3 champions fell to 0-3 in pool play when Connecticut downed Bangor East 10-8 late Sunday.
Details of the second game were unavailable at presstime.
