BURLINGTON – Barbara Kay (Shorey) Smith, 75, passed away Aug. 11, 2009, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born June 9, 1934, in Burlington, the daughter of Clyde and Madeline (Ewing) Shorey. She married Gerald “Bud” Smith, Sept. 1, 1951, in Lincoln. She is survived by her children, Deborah Houston and her husband, Tom, of Hyde Park, N.Y., Timothy Smith and his wife, Mina, of Burlington, Michael Smith and his wife, Marilyn, of Lowell, Gerry Smith and his wife, Cheryl, of Burlington, Brian Smith and his wife, Tina, of Burlington, and Tracey Lemay of Mattawamkeag; a son-in-law, Patrick Lemay of Lincoln; siblings, Lillian Thomas of Howland, Lenora Priest and her husband, Charles, of Lowell, Orland Shorey and his wife, Suzanne, of Burlington, Lora Harding and her husband, Phillip, of Lowell, Sandra Hope Colby of Gardiner and Clyde Shorey Jr., and his wife, Glenda, of Burlington; brother-in-law, Floyd Smith and his wife, Cleo, of Florida; and sister-in-law, Coris Betters and her husband, Ernest, of Olamon. Barbara’s grandchildren are Ann Marie Fleming, Melissa Sagendorph, Megan Smith, Tina Smith, Robert Smith, Cathy Knowlton, Karen Phillips, Cheryl Sbordone, Jason Knowlton, Jake Smith, Becky Montgomery, Dawn Swenson, Anthony Robles, Mandy Robles and Kaitlyn Lemay. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and one to be born in November; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Woody. Barbara has many “adopted” children who she loved as her own and who considered her their mother. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Fred Thomas and Dana Colby; and a sister-in-law, Connie Comstock.
