FORT KENT, Maine — About 1,600 Maine Public Service customers were without power Friday night and Saturday morning after a transformer at a substation in Fort Kent exploded at 6:30 p.m., according to Tom Greaves, system operator.

Of those customers, Greaves said about 200 were without power until 8 p.m. and another 1,400 customers were without power until about 6 a.m. Saturday.
