EDMUNDS – Merton C. Ward, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at his home. He was the last surviving child of Guy L. and Evelyn E. (Hayward) Ward. He was a World War II Army veteran and a poultry farmer. Merton enjoyed haying, researching genealogy, farming and his animals. He is survived by his son, Richard Ward and his wife, Jeniva, of Edmunds; his daughter, Marjorie Bowden and her husband, Chauncey, of Echo, Ore.; two grandchildren, Matthew Moores and his wife, Samantha of St. George, Utah, and Rachel Gifford and her husband, Stephen, of Echo, Ore.; three brothers-in-law, John, Lewis and Dana Cox; several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Esther; three brothers, Clyde Russell Ward, Robert Ward and Sam Blair Ward; and four sisters, Lorraine Murphy, Julia Conley, Madeline Duty and Pauline T. Jaden. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.
