FRANKLIN – Robert Gordon Bruce, 67, died Aug. 18, 2009, at his residence. He was born Sept. 30, 1941, in Harrisonburg, Va., the son of G. Gordon and Dorothy (Hobbs) Bruce. Gordon graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1959 and the University of Maine in 1965. Gordon served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1981 with a Master of Science degree. He was a horticulturist and educator for many years. Gordon enjoyed fishing, camping and big scoops of ice cream. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Franklin; son, Timothy Bruce and wife, Heidi, of Portland; daughters, Leah Ott and husband, David, of Wales and Rebecca Gobel and husband, John, of Tennessee; grandchildren, Andrew, MacKenzie, Julia and Thomas Ott, Evan, Anna and Owen Gobel, Quinn and Sadie Bruce; and sister, Ann Bruce of Bar Harbor. He was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant.
